The Coat Closet: It's Reveal Time!

May 6, 2013

Here it is, the new coat closet! I'm very excited about this little makeover because it is a completely finished project which had no problems from start to finish and let's face it, it has been a while since we've had a problem-free project ;) I'm also really thrilled that this turned out exactly how I saw it in my head - I LOVE IT!

Splashed out ($5, ha) on new hangers and gave them an in the night sky mini makeover with a can of spray paint (of course) and then put them to use by putting all our winter coats on them and then into their new home.

There are nine coats/jackets pictured in the closet and only two belong to me, seven belong to Paul.  How is it possible that I have fewer coats than a guy? Having said that, Paul loves our new closet and keeps saying how great it is to have it - that's the best compliment you can get for an idea isn't it?

I'm going to do a proper before and after post of the makeover, including details of all the bits and pieces used, during the week :)

The Coat Closet: A Sneak Peek + A Shiny Birdy

May 1, 2013

I love love love how the coat closet has turned out! We just finished installing the rail tonight, so I haven't taken any pictures of the finished product but I'll do that soon.  By the way, do you know how frustrating it is to search online for a rail for a wardrobe or closet when they are referred to by different names depending on where you look? Hanging rail, clothes rail, wardrobe rail, hanging rod, clothes hanger, etc...frustrating. Even more frustrating was looking and not finding a rail in the wardrobe section at Bunnings because they are in the bathroom section - as they would be.

During the closet makeover we squeezed in a road trip on the weekend to Kyneton and Daylesford (about an hour - hour and a half from Melbourne) where I picked up this brass pheasant in Daylesford from The Amazing Mill Markets.  If you are not familiar with them, The Amazing Mill Markets are a series of stalls housed under one roof and cover antiques, vintage fashion, industrial objects...all sorts of goodies.   The good thing about The Amazing Mill Markets is that most of the junk you would normally have to go through to find something good at an op shop isn't there but on the other hand, you do pay a bit more because someone has already sorted through the junk to find the good stuff and sell it to you at their stall. Worth a visit if you are near any of their 3 locations around Victoria. Turns out I'm not the only one who was taken with the pheasant though...

A bit creepy isn't it? Do not know what the attraction is, but Dexter is fascinated with this pheasant. He just sits and stares at.

So back to the pheasant.  He was sweet but very tarnished so I did some Googling and found this green brass cleaning method and I'm happy to report that it really works. Super shiny, yes?

Back soon with the coat closet reveal :)

The Coat Closet: It's Underway!

April 26, 2013

About halfway through the linen/coat closet makeover and (hope I don't jinx myself here) it's going really well, although the wallpapering is still to come... I've changed things up a bit and have gone with a little touch of black for the interior trim which I am loving - so much so that I was thinking I should go and add some black paint everywhere else in the house, but then I thought about all that extra painting.  Can't wait to get the wallpaper on tomorrow, more pics (both before and after) to come after that.
